Peugeot RC HYmotion4 Concept Racing Car

Peugeot RC Concept Racing Car 1With Citroen, Peugeot RC HYmotion4 is a field that is increasingly cluttered with hybrid concepts using a new system that can take the road to be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show. Fortunately for Peugeot, they have managed not just recycle or rebadge an existing model, but have incorporated this technology into an boldly attractive four door GT coupe.

Peugeot RC Concept Racing Car 2Peugeot has joined sister-brand Citroen by releasing a concept vehicle based on the new HYmotion4 AWD hybrid system. The new concept is according to Peugeot, a ‘Touring Car Coupe’ that features a number of engineering and technological ideas expected to make their way, if only gradually, into both of the carmaker’s future production models. Unlike the hybrid systems used by current production vehicles, this concept has no direct mechanical connection between the electric and internal combustion drive systems. This way, the RC can operate in either rear, front, or all-wheel-drive modes. That means it can also operate using internal combustion, electric only or blended mode combining both. Propelling this concept is a rear mounted turbocharged 1.6 liter engine driving the rear wheels and producing 218 hp and 206 lb-ft of torque. Up front, an electric motor provides up to another 132 lb-ft of torque and provides a governed combined production of 313 horsepower. This sort of power pays of with acceleration to 62 mph in a mere 4.4 seconds. The electrons are stored in a lithium-ion battery pack of an as unreleased size, but having the electric motor at the front instead of the rear axle means that more kinetic energy can be recaptured through the regenerative braking process. According to Peugeot, the RC can get 52.3 mpg with a minimum output of just 109 g/km of CO2 emissions.

Peugeot RC Concept Racing Car 3Other Hymotion4 concepts in the mix for the future include Peugeot’s Prologue, which previews an upcoming 3008 crossover, as well as the Citroen Hypnos and C4 WRC rally car. These concepts, according to the manufacturer, are a synthesis of ideas that demonstrate a commitment to both respecting the environment and driving pleasure. If all of the technology that is used within this concept lives up to the manufacturer claims, the French may have the inside track in future hybrid production.

Press Release

Citroën has released full details and pricing for the hotly anticipated DS3 Racing, and has announced that customer orders can be placed from 1st September, 2010.

Developed by Citroën Racing – the winning team behind five WRC Manufacturer’s titles and six Driver’s titles for Sébastien Loeb and co-driver Daniel Elena – DS3 Racing has an impeccable sporting pedigree. The specially tuned 1.6-litre THP engine produces 207hp and maximum torque of 275Nm, which means DS3 Racing boasts a top speed of 146mph, a 0-62mph time of just 6.5 seconds and takes just 26.5 seconds to cover 1,000m from a standing start.

Based on the top-of-the-range DS3 DSport THP 150, DS3 Racing has been extensively modified, by Citroën Racing, to deliver optimised sporting characteristics and specific equipment from the world of motorsport.

Significantly better specified than many of its competitors, DS3 Racing is a driver’s car that doesn’t compromise on comfort or convenient technology – standard equipment includes automatic digital air conditioning, Bluetooth® with USB connectivity and an eight-speaker HiFi system. DS3 Racing also has some new features such as S.ESP (Switchable Electronic Stability Programme) and the Citroën eTouch Assistance System.

RACING INSPIRED DESIGN

Respecting all of the fundamental design codes of DS3, DS3 Racing adds many more motorsport inspired features, including carbon fibre components such as the rear diffuser, front bumper, side rubbing strips and wheel arch extensions. The interior has received the same special treatment and the extensive use of carbon fibre continues on the centre console, steering wheel and door inserts.

DS3 Racing is available in two distinctive colour schemes, one with an Obsidian Black (pearlescent) body and a Sport Orange roof the other features a Polar White body with a Carbon Grey roof. The orange or grey roof colours are matched to the alloy wheels, door mirrors, chevrons, grille surround, tailgate spoiler and dashboard fascia*.

The exclusive nature of DS3 Racing is clearly denoted by the addition of ‘Citroën Racing’ on the
doors and figure-hugging sports seats, and the DS3 Racing signature on the rear tailgate.

POWER & DYNAMICS

Citroën’s new DS3 Racing has everything needed to become the benchmark in its segment in terms of dynamic performance. Thrills and excitement are at the heart of DS3 Racing and on the road this car’s sporting pedigree immediately becomes evident. DS3 Racing’s power and performance come directly from the brand’s expertise in rallying. Citroën Racing’s engineers have increased the power output of the 1.6-litre THP engine from 156hp to 207hp. Maximum torque is also increased, from 240Nm to 275Nm – an increase of nearly 15% – and is available over a wide rpm range to improve acceleration and engine flexibility.

DS3 Racing’s chassis and running gear have also been adapted and enhanced. The team’s engineers have been able to accentuate feedback from the road, with even more precision and control, sportier handling and swifter cornering. The suspension settings have been modified, specific dampers have been fitted, front and rear tracks have been widened by 30mm and the ride height has been lowered by 15 mm. The braking system has also been up-rated, with 4-piston callipers and special brake discs at the front. All of these changes combine to profoundly enhance the on-road behaviour of DS3 Racing.

Citroen DS3 “StreetSeekers” Online Competition

The British division of Citroen announced today it has launched a new online competition on Facebook in which it invites entrants to find four pieces of the new DS3, as well as a complete car on the Google’s Street View virtual platform. Winners can get their hands on a new DS3 White 1.6 VTi 120 hp, as well as other Xbox 360 and iPod Touch prizes.

The competition’s organizers will release each day, for five days, a cryptic clue which is meant to guide you to one of the four pieces of Citroen DS3. These parts are hidden somewhere on the virtual map of Europe. After getting all four pieces, you'll receive the clue for finding the car offers as the first prize on the new Citroen DS3 StreetSeekers competition.

There will be three rounds of the DS3 StreetSeekers competition. The first one runs from July 27 until July 31, the second runs from August 17-21 and the third round from September 7-11. The winner will be contacted within 72 hours of the DS3 being found.

Press Release

Citroën has launched ‘DS3 StreetSeekers’, an innovative on-line competition that invites entrants to search for four pieces of the new DS3 - plus a complete car - across the virtual landscape of Google’s Street View platform. The top prize is a brand new DS3 White 1.6 VTi 120hp. Xbox 360 and iPod Touch prizes are also up for grabs.

A cryptic clue will be released each day during the five-day competition period, hinting at where a piece of DS3 is hidden, somewhere across the interactive map of Europe. When participants discover all four pieces they’ll be given a clue as to the complete DS3’s location. The first to find the DS3 could win one in real life.

In true ‘hide and seek’ style, visitors to the DS3 StreetSeekers microsite can ‘walk’ around the application’s virtual streets until they uncover a piece of DS3. Helping users to locate the pieces, a graphic will hint whether they are getting ‘hot’ or ‘cold’ as they move about. When they walk over the secret coordinates, the pieces spring into view. DS3 StreetSeekers also uses Facebook Connect to allow an entrant to notify all of their friends when they discover a DS3 part, inviting them to get involved and also giving them a chance of winning.

If users don’t find all the hidden pieces and the car the first time round, there will be two more opportunities to take part and to win a DS3 in the StreetSeekers competition, with new hidden locations and prizes.

The first round of the DS3 StreetSeekers competition runs from 27th July, with the clue to the location of the car itself being released on Saturday 31st July. The winner will be contacted within 72 hours of the DS3 being found. The second round of the competition runs from 17th - 21st August and the third round from 7th - 11th September.
