MWdesign BMW E89 Z4

MWDesign unveiled a new tuning package for the BMW Z4 Roadster. Performance wise, the Z4 Slingshot comes with a Dinan Stage II+ ECU Upgrade that adds some extra 78 hp and 157 Nm to the power of the standard car, boosting the output to a total of 400 hp and 570 Nm. The car has also been fitted with the first prototype exhaust for E89 Z4 3.5 turbo, also custom powdercoated matte black.

The exterior of the car has been modified with serveral carbon fiber parts, including front splitters, quad rear diffuser, and accenting, were fitted to the vehicle.  Even though the car has a new front and rear spoiler, the original kidney grille remains to show everybody its still a BMW at heart.

The front of the car has been garnished with an AC Schnitzer front addon spoiler, while the rear gets a carbon diffuser and wing from 3D Carbon. So what MW does is painting some of those parts in green! But the whole package looks quite classy and cool, specially with those 20-inch black Modulare wheels.

MWDesign Project E89 Z4 3.5 "Slingshot"

At MWDesign, we are huge fans of all genres of design whether it is automotive, interior, architectural or even product design.

Inspiration for car themes often comes from random thoughts or from influences in our daily lives. These themes can be developed from something as basic as a single color or from something as complex as an abstract feeling provoked by an image or words but in this case was developed from a sport we are also passionate about; golf.

Like vehicle tuning and customization, golf is a highly technical sport, which requires top tier engineering and design of its precision equipment to enhance performance.

In golf, while technical innovation is important, aesthetics and design are never forgotten which is an ideal that we like to convey through our projects.

In our concepts we love to combine a collection of over-thought out details to create the overall image and theme of the vehicle. Rather than using several large and explicit details that do not flow, we prefer to build layers with details and textures that may not be immediately appreciated upon first glance. Factory like finishing and quality is of the utmost importance to each project build.

Modern, subdued finishes selected are devoid of polished and chrome surfaces unless absolutely necessary to avoid an overtly "shiny" and gaudy look.

For this specific E89 build, asides from loving the boldness of lime green, we have also had the pleasure of owning the Slingshot series of golf clubs crafted by Nike. This shade of green associated with the Slingshot series was the perfect starting base for our choice of green accenting color.

Lime green is one of the wildest colors on the entire color wheel. This color is perhaps best associated with extreme cars such as the "Verde Ithaca" from the Lamborghini Gallardo and Murcielago lines as well as "Sublime" from the Mopar greats such as the 70's Plymouth ‘Cuda, Dodge Challenger and Charger.

In our opinion it is one of the hardest colors to use successfully without looking overly excessive and out of place. For this reason, we had to use the color sparingly in combination with a monochromatic backdrop. A gradient from black, gunmetal grey battleship grey, to white is used to create a wide palette that still stresses neutrality but can still match the green.

Modulare wheels have sponsored our build with a set of 20" H1 three-piece wheels. We specified these wheels to be custom built with a highly detailed tinted brushed aluminum finish. From far the wheels look to be painted gunmetal but upon closer inspection they reveal the beauty of a machine brushed finish through the depth of a high gloss tinted clearcoat.

The wheel lips are then finished in a gloss black to provide a visually cohesive look with the long low body of the E89.

Toyo Tires has sponsored us with a set of our personal favorite T1-R tires in 245/30/20 and 285/25/20 to keep the Z4 planted in conjunction with the H&R suspension.

IND Distribution / Eisenmann USA has stepped in to provide us with the first prototype exhaust for E89 Z4 3.5 turbo. The exhaust system by itself is an amazing system that spans from the end canister to the catalysts. The end result is an awesome looking rear profile with an increase in power and torque with a low powerful tone without droning.

To match our monochromatic scheme, we had the entire exhaust system custom powdercoated matte black.

To further increase the Z4's power into supercar contention territory, our friends at DINAN sponsored the vehicle with an ECU upgrade. The ECU upgrade is definitely the best dollar for enjoyment modification adding a sizeable 78 horsepower and 116 pound feet of torque.

When added in conjunction with STETT Performance's front mount intercooler and diverter valves, air passes through colder and more freely resulting in greater power output. STETT's FMIC intercooler for E89 is rated for 620 horsepower and is made from top grade aluminum and 304 stainless piping.

To complete the car visually, we applied our "CONCEPTuning" approach to digitally render the car with the correct exterior modifications. Careful selection of area to accentuate with green, grey and carbon fiber were crucial in creating the correct look for the Z4. We are proud to say that our digital render is a 100% likeness to the final result.

The CONCEPTuning approach is vital in our tailoring of vehicles to ensure that the end result is precise and is loved by the client prior to ordering a single part to avoid having costly mistakes.

To complete the look we added a polyurethane front lip spoiler by AC Schnitzer with a custom made carbon fiber splitter that follows the curvature of the front add-on. Bodywork and paint for the aerodynamics and roll bars were done for us by Bismark Collision Facility in Richmond BC.

Our good friends at 3D Design in Japan sponsored the rear spoiler and matte carbon for our project build. The design of the rear lip spoiler and the rear diffuser was our first choice to complete the rear for this build. The weave and quality of the rear carbon fiber diffuser is absolutely flawless and perhaps the finest that we have seen.

To complete the rest of our theme, we dropped the car off at our long time business partners at Blitzgear in Richmond BC. They followed our render with absolute accuracy and created a matte carbon fiber fin to fit within the character lines of the front hood, retractable hardtop and trunk lid bordered with a battleship grey pinstripe.

Lime green accents were strategically added to the front bumper air ducts, underneath the rear diffuser, wheel lip striping and to the roll bar backs.

In our opinion this was just the perfect amount, grey and carbon to accent with the factory body to create the colorful yet minimalist modern technical look we were trying to achieve.

We feel that the use of modern finishing, precision engineering and no compromise design and aesthetics parallel to the sport of golf, which inspired us for this build. Our selection of a specific lime green also pays a great reference and homage to the amazing Nike Slingshot series of clubs and drivers that we have had the pleasure of owning and using.

The only thing missing from this build at the moment is a set of custom big brakes, which is currently in development.

Josep Ferriol is a graduate of Universidad Politécnica de Valencia in Spain, and a designer. Josep Ferriol created this concept car design study called the Volkswagen Kai-Nalu, a wild child with extremely exotic looks, as part of his thesis.

2010 Tesla Roadster 2.5

The 2010 Tesla Roadster 2.5 will debut at the same time in Copenhagen, Denmark, and Newport Beach, California and will bring both design and technology improvements.

The Roadster 2.5 demonstrates that Tesla will give its range of vehicles a family resemblance. The new front fascia with diffusing vents is similar to the svelte Model S sedan, and Tesla says the new rear diffuser also points to the brand’s future design language.

The interior is reinforced with an improved sound-reduction materials and an optional seven-inch nav system. Some of the upgrades will be available to existing Roadster owners as upgrades. In terms of styling, the Roadster features a new front fascia, restyled wheels (available in silver or black) and a modified rear diffuser. Inside, the cabin has improved sound dampening, better seats, and an optional 7-inch navigation system with a back-up camera.

The look and feel of the car has been redesigned too, with new air-intake vents, alloy wheels and comfier seats. It's better suited for warmer climates too, thanks to a new power control system.

Opting for the Roadster Sport unlocks a new wheel design, available in silver or gloss black finishes. Everything in between is more or less identical to the now old Roadster 2.0.

Tesla Premiers Roadster 2.5 at Goodwood Festival of Speed

Electric Carmaker Will Perform This Weekend in World-Famous Motoring Festival in the UK.

CHICHESTER, England - Tesla Motors (TSLA) will unveil its next-generation sports car to the public this weekend at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The Tesla Roadster 2.5 features improvements in design and technology, including a new front fascia, rear diffuser, improved seat comfort, sound dampening and an optional large touch screen navigation system with back-up camera. Improved interior sound reduction techniques, including new front fender liner material, make the cabin even quieter.

The Festival of Speed is the world's largest motoring garden party, a unique weekend that brings together a heady mix of cars, stars and motor sport royalty to create the largest car culture festival worldwide. Held in the immaculate grounds of Goodwood House, this annual hill-climb extravaganza celebrates all things automotive.

Goodwood is one of the most beloved motoring events in the world and a highlight of the English summer so it's only appropriate that this iconic celebration will be the public premiere of the latest Roadster, said Cristiano Carlutti, Tesla's Vice President of European Operations.

Absolutely Extraordinary

Tesla has already become a darling of Britain's beloved Goodwood, which this spring hosted the first official UK motor race that included electric vehicles, a competition sanctioned by the UK Motor Sport Association. One of Britain's most respected motoring correspondents described a recent Roadster stint on a Goodwood hill climb as an 'absolutely extraordinary performance.'

UK companies that purchase a Roadster benefit from a 100 percent Writing Down Allowance, meaning they can deduct the price of the car from their taxable profits. The Roadster is the only sports car that has ever qualified for such a tax incentive in the UK. Roadster drivers park for free and without time limits in various London boroughs, they get four hours of free charging at certain parking sites, and they are exempt from the Showroom Tax.

Tesla launched the new Roadster this week and is delivering to customers now. More than 1,200 current Tesla owners in at least 23 countries have logged over five million electric miles in their Roadsters.

The latest version in a proud line of pony cars pays homage to its heritage, yet incorporates modern styling touches that convey the essence of the Mustang formula without simply being a throwback. The all-new exterior styling begins out front. Changes to the headlamps and grille tie the redesigned front fenders together and move the eye onto the sculpted and powerdomed hood. The muscular look isn't just for show. The swept forward grille and domed hood are designed to enhance cooling airflow through the engine bay.

The sweeping beltline profile is punctuated by redesigned side view mirrors that accent the signature Mustang spear body detail. The fastback roofline flows down over the new rear fascia and sculpted decklid. The prominent rear center badge of the Mustang is punctuated by a set of sequential LED firing turn signals with vertical reverse lamps for a return to the classic three-lamp Mustang taillight design. This feature was first rolled out on Shelby Mustangs in the Sixties and has been reborn for the 2010 Mustang.

The redesigned front and rear fenders wrap skin tight around the new Mustang. Sculpted fender flares are a tribute to the Mustang's proud racing heritage, and serve as a perfect frame for a new lineup of larger diameter and wider aluminum wheels. Variations of the classic five-spoke theme of yesterday's muscle car wheels have been updated with modern design and manufacturing technology and lighter alloys. There are a total of seven new wheel choices for 2010, starting with 17x7-inch standard wheels for V6 Mustang, and moving up to a 18x8-inch for the V6 Pony Package and V8 GT. Optional bright machined aluminum or painted nickel aluminum 19x8.5-inch wheels are available on FORD Mustang GT Premium packages.

World Class Interior
The 2010 Ford Mustang interior folds the timeless muscle car design formula for success together with thoroughly modern manufacturing. The functional simplicity and beauty of a pair set of deep round gauges with distinctive chrome rings are the visual signature of the Mustang's all-new interior. Genuine brushed aluminum panels sit atop a seamless soft-touch thermoplastic olefin skin and lead out from the redesigned centerstack to precisely crafted dual vane air vents. The seats and armrests feature a softer material and improved stitching. Even what cannot be seen has brought improvement to the Mustang cabin experience. Sound deadening materials out of sight are integrated in such a way that road and wind noise are reduced, but the throaty growl of performance gets a chance to make its note more well heard.

Breathe In. Breathe Out.
This real music in the Mustang inspirational equation is produced by a 210-hp 4.0-liter V6 with 240 foot pounds of torque, or a 315-hp 4.6-liter V8 rated at 325 foot pounds of torque. Both engines are standard equipped with a five-speed manual, which includes an improved short-throw precision shifter for the V8, or an available five-speed automatic transmission. The V8 steps up in horsepower over previous version thanks to knowledge gained on the racetrack. A cold-air intake system adopted from Ford Racing Technology division helps ram more and denser air into the engine for in increase in power from a standstill right up until the 6,500 rpm redline. Engine management electronics of the award winning 4.6-liter, three-valve V8 have been recalibrated to take advantage of better breathing and bumped up redline. The Mustang also offers a dual-adaptive anti-knock system. While the 2010 Mustang engine will run great and kick out every bit of advertised horsepower on regular 87-octane gasoline, it will also know when to squeeze the tiger out with the higher octane premium gasoline it's added into the tank and fed to the engine. Both V6 and V8 engines breathe out through larger diameter exhaust tips for more of the legendary Mustang sound.

Suspension tuning can make the difference not only between winning and losing the race, but maintaining a safe grasp on vehicle control. Steering and suspension upgrades for 2010 have taken cues from Ford Racing vehicles and the successful Bullitt edition Mustang. The entire suspension has been fine tuned to deliver a more entertaining driving experience. The balance between more controlled handling and comfortable ride is enhanced by the all-new AdvanceTrac® electronic stability control with traction control and anti-lock brake system. The system reduces engine torque and applies braking when it senses wheel slippage or excessive side-to-side vehicle motion. Traction control can be turned on and off on V6 equipped Mustang. V8 GT Mustang will feature a Sport Mode, which allows the driver to have a little more fun along with an increased measure of modern safety. The aggressive restyling of the Mustang reduces overall drag and reduces front end lift, which delivers increased steering feedback, vehicle control, and driver confidence at higher speeds. Four-wheel power disc brakes with 4-sensor, 4-channel anti-lock braking system (ABS) is standard equipment, and all Mustang models feature dual front airbags and driver-passenger side impact airbags.

Freedom of Choice
While the Mustang has always been about affordable performance, it has long stood as a symbol for personal freedom of choice. The 2010 Mustang stable begins with selecting a V6 or V8 engine, and continues with myriad choices and options beyond this first decision. The V-6 and V-8 Mustang share the aggressive and bounding swagger of the redesign, but each have unique and subtle differences to set them apart. Headlamps and turn signals have been integrated into one unit on both cars for a modern take on the 1970 Mustang. V6 equipped Mustang Premium models feature a set of fog lamps located on the lower fascia. While the V8 GT fog lamps are moved up into the grille but made smaller as a nod to the 1967-68 versions. Along with a coupe and convertible the 2010 Mustang is available with unique and innovative glass roof option.

A Red Candy Metallic with tinted clear coat is but one of many bold new exterior colors that harkens back to the untamed spirit of the Sixties and Seventies, while in the interior, 125 shades of driver controlled six-gauge cluster color customization effects are featured with My Color™ along with ambient interior lighting system on premium models. Mustang option packages drift well beyond the visual, with suspension upgrades to spring rates, shock damping, stabilizer bars, stiffness adding mechanical bite to outward appearances. From a V6 Pony Package right up to an asphalt-crunching V8 GT with available 3.73 Rear Axle package there is a 2010 Mustang waiting for every driver.
